Are you living with fine lines and facial volume loss that make you appear older than you feel? At Arijai Aesthetics, we know the signs of facial aging can take a toll on your confidence. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with aging skin, thanks to a revolutionary cosmetic injectable filler called Sculptra. If you’re ready to turn back your skin’s biological clock and sculpt a more youthful appearance, Sculptra should be your new go-to tool. The cosmetic dermatology experts at Derma Dolce explain why below.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a dermal filler made of poly-L-lactic acid, a substance well-known to stimulate collagen production in the deep layer of the skin known as the dermis. Poly-L-lactic acid is a synthetic form of lactic acid, which your body naturally produces during periods of intense, anaerobic exercise.

When lactic acid is endogenously produced by the human body, it improves the skin’s natural moisture levels, which promotes a fuller, younger appearance. In the case of Sculptra treatments, synthetic lactic acid restores volume to facial tissue by increasing the skin’s natural collagen production over time.

How Does Collagen Promote a Younger Appearance?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, comprising approximately 35% of the body’s entire protein content. It forms the basis for skin, hair, nails, connective tissue, smooth muscle, organs, blood vessels, and several other internal structures. Its primary role is to promote structure, strength, and elasticity within the bodily tissues it comprises.

In human skin, collagen is perhaps the most critical structural component. It’s fibrous protein molecules are tightly packed together to form long, thin fibrils which have incredible tensile strength. When collagen is at optimal levels—typically before the age of 25—it encourages voluminous, resilient, youthful-looking skin. After the age of 25, however, collagen production begins to decline, which eventually results in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss.

What Signs of Aging Can Sculptra Improve?

When injected into the deep dermis, Sculptra is an effective treatment for diminishing the appearance of many of the most common signs of aging, including:

●        Smile lines that appear around the outer edges of the lips

●        Parentheses lines around the mouth

●        Sunken cheeks

●        Volume loss around the temples

●        Chin wrinkles

Unlike many other dermal fillers, Sculptra works as a bio-activator, which encourages your skin to ramp up endogenous production of collagen. The treatment consists of approximately three courses of injections over a period of three to four months. Throughout that time, the poly-L-lactic acid slowly dissipates as it is gradually replaced by new collagen in the deepest layers of your skin.

Results are not immediate, as the treatment encourages your body to boost its own collagen production. Instead, recipients typically notice substantial improvements over a four to six month period. Because Sculptra encourages the body to gradually build its own collagen, results from the treatment last up to two years.
