Everybody has them — those barely visible, super fine facial hairs, affectionately referred to as peach fuzz. Unfortunately, though, those facial hairs — combined with dead skin cells and uneven texture — can make your face appear far duller than it really is. And when you’re trying to maintain a youthful, vibrant complexion, fuzzy, dull skin is far from ideal.

At Arijai Aesthetics, it’s our goal to help you feel your absolute best from the outside in, and one of the skin care treatments we use to achieve that is dermablading. Curious what the procedure entails and whether it can help you get your glow back? We’re delving into the details below.

What Is Dermablading?

Dermablading, also known as dermaplaning, is colloquially referred to as a “scalpel facial” because the treatment involves the use of a surgical-grade blade to manually exfoliate the skin. The treatment is designed to remove peach fuzz (vellus hairs) from your facial skin, while simultaneously exfoliating away dead, dull skin cells and trapped oil and debris.

How Does the Treatment Work?

During a dermablading treatment, your cosmetic dermatology specialist uses a medical-grade stainless steel blade to delicately exfoliate your skin. By gently pulling your skin taught, your skin care specialist is able to carefully glide the blade along your skin, essentially shaving your face. But, unlike shaving your face with a standard razor, the medical-grade blade used for dermablading also removes the uppermost layer of dead, dull skin from your complexion.

The treatment does not involve any discomfort and typically requires about 45 minutes for completion. After a dermablading session, your skin will feel incredibly smooth and will more readily absorb anti-aging skin care products. You’ll also notice that your skin appears considerably more fresh, healthy, and vibrant when it’s no longer shrouded by an uneven, rough layer of dead skin cells.

The best part? Dermablading is a fantastic treatment for people with sensitive skin! Because it causes no irritation and exfoliates without penetrating the upper layer of the skin, anyone without active acne is a great candidate for the treatment.

How Often Should You Schedule Dermablading Treatments?

For optimal results, you should schedule dermablading treatments at three- to four-week intervals since your facial hairs will inevitably return. While that’s typically the recommended time period between treatments, no two patients have the same skin.

To ensure your skin gets the custom treatment it deserves, our cosmetic dermatology specialists will formulate an individualized treatment protocol designed with your unique skin in mind. Based on your history and your skin’s current condition, we’ll recommend the appropriate treatment frequency, along with other services we feel will enhance your results.
