If you’re considering undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift, it’s important that you understand what the BBL recovery process looks like. While the outcome of the surgery — a curvier, more shapely derriere and waist — is no doubt your primary focus, knowing what to expect following surgery is imperative. Ultimately, the way you care for yourself after the procedure will impact your final BBL results.

Here’s what you can expect in terms of aftercare and recovery after a Brazilian butt lift.

What to Expect Immediately After BBL Surgery

Brazilian butt lift procedures are performed under general anesthesia, so when the surgery is over and you’ve woken up, you’ll spend some time in our Recovery House relaxing.

Expect to notice bruising and swelling throughout the areas where you had adipose tissue harvested and re-injected. You should also expect to feel some degree of discomfort.

At our Recovery House, we provide 24-hour care and assistance, as well as healthy snacks and meals to get you started on your road to recovery. If you’re visiting us from out of town, we also offer airport pickup and drop-off for your convenience.

If you’re local to the Twin Cities, you’ll need to have someone drive you home from your BBL procedure as you will not be able to operate a vehicle following surgery.

How Long Does BBL Recovery Take?

Generally speaking, recovery from a Brazilian butt lift takes approximately six to eight weeks. However, every patient recovers differently from surgery, so your timeline for recovery may be a little different.

Most patients find they’re able to walk around about a day or two after the procedure. Generally, patients resume work about seven to 10 days following BBL surgery.

Common Side Effects to Expect After BBL Surgery

Do not be alarmed if you notice fluid draining from the incision sites for a few days after you get a BBL. This is completely normal, and it’s also normal for that fluid to be tinged with blood.

Expect to see bruising and swelling for approximately two weeks following the procedure, when your discomfort levels will be highest. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers, or, if you experience significant discomfort, your surgeon can prescribe you stronger medication.

Tips for Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

To support your body after BBL surgery and encourage optimal results from the procedure, you’ll want to heed the following recovery tips.

Wear Your Compression Garment as Instructed

Your surgeon will send you home in a compression garment designed to minimize swelling and discomfort and help your skin retract. This garment also helps encourage optimal recovery, so be sure to wear it as instructed.

Avoid Sitting Directly on Your Tush

For approximately eight weeks following BBL surgery, you must not sit directly on your buttocks. Your surgical team will send you home with a Booty Buddy pillow, which is designed to provide support for your legs while allowing your tush to hang free. For optimal results, use this pillow whenever you need to sit.

Avoid Sitting for Long Periods

To encourage optimal blood circulation throughout the treatment area, it’s in your best interest to avoid sitting too long. When you’re able to get up and begin moving around, you’ll want to alternate between sitting and light walking.

Sleep on Your Side or Stomach

To avoid putting pressure directly on your buttocks while you sleep, do not sleep on your back for at least eight weeks after BBL surgery. You may want to use a body pillow or donut pillow for additional support.

Resuming Activities

For approximately four weeks after surgery, you should avoid doing any type of high-impact activities, especially those that involve bouncing. Only after you’ve healed completely and the adipose tissue has stabilized should you resume vigorous activities like jogging.

For optimal results, be sure to heed all of the BBL aftercare instructions your surgeon gives you. If you have any questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to reach out, and we’ll be more than happy to help you!
